INDONESIA

Indonesia is an independent republic consisting of more than 17,500 islands spread over 3,400 miles along the Equator. The main islands are Java, Sumatra, Bali, Kalimantan (Borneo), Sulawesi (Celebes), Papua, Halmahera, and Seram. The capital city of Jakarta lies in the lowlands of West Java, the most populated island. The country has approximately 246,000,000 people and more than 300 ethnic groups. I would like to travel to Bali next is some of the following information about Bali and a horrific emotional tragedy that happened in Bali the BALI BOMBINGS.

BALI

Bali is one of the main places the whole population explores and I would like to see it to because everyone has been to bali at school anyway. Some of the following activities that I participate and enjoy in bali are water sports, hiking, rafting, biking, surfing, golf, fun parks, elephant rides, reptile and bird park, safari park, relaxing by the hotel pool, massages, spa treatments, eating and of course, shopping! I can't wait until I can go traveling and experience the world, the world is a beautiful place and everyone deserves to explore it. Bali can have some negatives such as lots of traffic, hawkers, narrow roads, poverty, bad pavement and smelly drains, the beach is not as fabulous as Australian beaches, Built up areas like Kuta can seem a bit full on and dirty and having to drink bottled water which does puts off tourists because some people believe its a dangerous place. One bad things that happened in bali a couple of years ago in 2002 was the Bali Bombings, now lets talk about the Bali Bombings.

BALI BOMBINGS

The 2002 Bali bombings occurred on 12 October 2002 in the tourist district of Kuta on the Indonesian island of Bali. The attack was claimed as the deadliest act of terrorism in the history of Indonesia according to the current police general, killing 202 people (including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesian, 27 Britons, 7 Americans and 5 Swedish citizens). A further 240 people were injured. It was a horrific tragedy and especially the ones who lost their loved ones, this is why some people refuse to go to Bali because of the bombings which I completely understand. On 14th of October 2012 Friends and families of victims of the 2002 Bali bombings gather to remember their loved ones 10 years on from the tragedy. The memorial concluded with a candlelight vigil and a 'paddle for peace' at sunset on the beach in Kuta, Bali. Below is a video of a story about a family who lost their son Billy Hardy, who was 20 when he was killed in the 2002 Bali bombings published by ABC news online.
